Brian von Dedenroth

THE LIFE OF BRIAN

Spokesperson, Television Host, Voice Over Artist, food blogging and podcasting as The Omnivorous Vegetarian, Brian von Dedenroth (Dee-den-roth) is host of The Winemakers on PBS and appears as a lifestyle expert on ABC, NBC, CBS and Fox nationwide.

Despite growing up in Southern California, Brian's early years were less focused on working in Television than hunting for something to eat.

As the youngest of six, survival depended on how good of a hunter you were.

Peanut butter and jelly, macaroni and cheese and quesadillas saw Brian through to college where he received Bachelors degrees in Biology and Psychology from UC San Diego and an MBA from San Diego State. After college he was lured from the silica beaches of San Diego to the Silicon Valley in search of dot com riches working for IBM and Internet advertising firm DoubleClick.

After Dot bomb glitches and little riches, Brian took time off to trek South America looking for adventure and discovering cuy (fried guinea pig) then giardia and finally how to say: “Soy vegetariano.”

On his return to the U.S., Brian switched careers working in TV production at KRON in San Francisco, followed by hosting for Amtrak, producing and writing for food and lifestyle programs.

His adventurous eating, self-taught cooking, and TV experience landed him as a SEMI-finalist, from 10,000 applicants, for his own cooking show on The Next Food Network Star. Missed it by a teaspoon.

Von Dedenroth has been a member of Toastmasters International and The National Speakers Association.

He has spoken for both Monster.com, dispensing college preparation and survival advice to thousands of high school kids, and for The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine on Health and Nutrition. Brian has also taught cooking and wine classes and continues to explore the world learning about other cultures through travel, wine, and food…preferably without the giardia.
